Hennadii Udovenko Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine hosted an outreach seminar dedicated to the Role and Potential of MIKTA
Today, on 24 November, Hennadii Udovenko Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine hosted an outreach seminar dedicated to the Role and Potential of MIKTA – an informal innovative partnership which brings together Mexico, Indonesia, Republic of Korea, Turkey and Australia. The seminar was organized with the support of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea to Ukraine and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
Ambassadors to Ukraine, representing the MIKTA States, have delivered brief speeches on their vision and perspective of MIKTA.
Opening remarks were made by Lee Yang Goo, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Ukraine, who emphasized on the importance of MIKTA, as a partnership of states that share common values and build bridges between the regions.
As Turkey chairs MIKTA in 2017, Yönet Can Tezel, Ambassador of Turkey to Ukraine, introduced an unusual definition of MIKTA: « I would like to start with saying, what MIKTA is not. MIKTA is not a treaty-based organisation. It is not a political or economic union. MIKTA is not an alternative to regional institutions. It is a common initiative of countries to find and tap into intellectual and administrative capacities of each other, and build networks».
Ambassador of Australia to Ukraine Melissa O’Rourke defined MIKTA as a «creative diplomacy in action», which is still «a work in progress».
During the second session of the event, Ambassador of Mexico to Ukraine, Maria Luisa Beatriz Lopez Gargallo, and Ambassador of Indonesia to Ukraine, Yuddy Chrisnandi, have spoken about peace and security challenges for global governance and MIKTA. Honourary guests have indicated that MIKTA agenda for the upcoming years will be focused on global security issues, counter-terrorism, and peace-keeping measures.
All Ambassadors expressed their gratitude to the Hennadii Udovenko Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine for responding to the initiative of having MIKTA Outreach seminar and used an opportunity to reiterate the support of their respective states of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.
