Public discussion "100 years of statehood – lessons learned from Latvian and Ukrainian experience"
On September 13 Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Latvia in Ukraine hosted a public discussion for the diplomatic corps and expert community “100 years of statehood – lessons learned from Latvian and Ukrainian experience”. It started with introductory remarks of Juris Poikans, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia to Ukraine and Vasyl Khymynets, Director-General of the First European Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
The discussion itself included presentations of Inna Šteinbuka, Professor of Latvian University and former Head of the European Commission in Latvia, on the Latvian experience of the EU support to reforms; Aiva Rosenberga, Director of Latvian Institute, inscribing the centenary of Latvian statehood in the framework of the European year of cultural heritage; and Kateryna Zarembo, deputy director of the New Europe Center, focusing on the most important aspects of Latvian-Ukrainian relations.
After the discussion, Ambassador Juris Poikans and Director of the Diplomatic Academy Sergiy Korsunsky opened the “Baltic Way” photo exhibition, dedicated to the famous human chain formed by the citizens of the three Baltic countries in 1989.
