The topic of the day: the world politics in transition

We started our weekly intense course with the morning lecture of the Ambassador of Great Britain to Belarus and the Associate Fellow of Chatham House Dr. Nigel Gould-Davies, devoted to the world politics in transition. The geography of political transformations is no less unbelievable than their scale. Together with our participants, we tried to define the nature and consequences of these changes.

Hanna Shelest, Chief Editor of UA: Ukraine Analytica and Member of the Board at the Foreign Policy Council “Ukrainian Prism”, held a practical training on the topic “Who are they – enemies, allies, rivals, and strategic partners”. The participants formulated their own criteria according to which they attempted to identify these categories.

After a short break together with the Professor of Political Sciences at Ruhr University in Bochum (Germany), Dean of the Faculty for Social Science Stefan A. Schirm we were looking for a delicate balance between the national interests of political actors and their official diplomacy.

What does it mean “critical thinking” and how to inculcate a habit to check the information you read? How useful can be the situation analysis for a Ukrainian diplomat? Today Director of the Hennadii Udovenko Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine, former Ambassador Korsunsky emphasized the importance of critical thinking and fact-checking for diplomats.
