Completed a three-day training course “Analysis of foreign policy, translating theory into practice”

During the training, Taavi Toom, an expert on international relations and communications, a former ambassador of Estonia to Denmark and Poland, spoke about the main components of political analysis and decision-making.

A few points from the speaker:

  • Foreign policy decisions are the product of an individual or a small group of people making decisions, responding to what they perceive as external reality, and being limited by it.
  • Always define the policy first and then try to explain it.
  • Analysis of foreign policy depends on the specific subject.
  • Foreign policy is not limited to the decisions of one leader, but personality, culture and identity can be of great importance.

The event was organized as part of the Trilateral Diplomatic Initiative, an educational project of Svenska institutet, Estonian School of Diplomacy and DAU.
