Measures to decarbonise the economy and accelerate the development of the green hydrogen industry are becoming relevant for an increasing number of countries around the world.
Ukraine’s potential in renewable energy, as well as many other factors, indicate that our country has the capacity to generate this innovative type of electricity on a large scale. Moreover, it will be able to transport it to demand centres in Europe at favourable prices. This was emphasised by the speakers of the online seminar held at DAU on 2-3 July.
However, experts noted that Ukraine also faces serious obstacles to this:
- the ongoing war;
- the occupation of regions rich in renewable energy sources;
- the modernisation of pipelines and production facilities;
- liberalisation of the electricity market.
The seminar was conducted by German and Ukrainian experts:
- Stefanie Held, Director of the UNDP’s Sustainable Energy Hub.
- Julia Kahrl, Deputy Head of Division Energy Diplomacy and Decarbonisation at the Federal Foreign Office.
- Dr Christoph Menke, Professor of Energy at the University of Applied Sciences Trier, Germany.
- Pavel Bilek, Deputy Head of the Energy and Climate team at Berlin Economics GmbH.
- Oleksandr Repkin, President of the Energy Association “Ukrainian Hydrogen Council” and Special Representative of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine for Economic Diplomacy.
