Lecture by Sir Philip Barton, KCMG OBE, British diplomat, and the Permanent Under-Secretary at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office of the UK

On February 28, the DAU hosted a lecture by Sir Philip Barton, KCMG OBE, British diplomat, and the Permanent Under-Secretary at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office of the UK.

During his speech, the British top diplomat spoke about:

  • British-Ukrainian relations
  • the impact of Russian aggression against Ukraine on international relations and global security
  • the role of diplomacy in times of war.

A few quotes from Sir Philip Barton:

It’s not only a brutal and terrible war against Ukraine but also a war of public opinion.

We should work more closely together because diplomacy and everything we do as diplomats is very important.

Supporting Ukraine and supporting democracy is fundamental for the world.

Nobody wants to be in a state of war, all want to live peacefully.

The meeting was moderated by Ambassador Hennadii Nadolenko, Director of the Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine.
