Online training by British diplomat, Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Slovakia (2007-2010) and expert of the Estonian School of Diplomacy Michael Roberts was held at DAU.
The subject of training was diplomatic skills in the context of negotiations with the European Union. Michael Roberts shared with the employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine his own view on the nature of the EU, the specifics of negotiations with European partners in terms of the European integration of Ukraine, and gave valuable advice regarding the key priorities of diplomats when working in European countries.
Here are some tips from Michael Roberts:
Don’t just sit in your embassy and stare at your laptop. This is the biggest mistake you can make as a diplomat. Make sure you are seen. Get out and travel. Go to the farthest places of the country and talk to ordinary people, make contacts. Networking is the key to successful diplomacy.
