On 15 May, the Hennadii Udovenko Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted the solemn event “Tradition of Culture and Law: Presentation of the Manifesto of Cyrus the Great and the Book Ukrainians and Tajiks: Cultural Relations”, dedicated to the 34th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Ukraine and the Republic of Tajikistan.
The event was attended by H.E. Mr Davlatali Nazrizoda, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tajikistan to Ukraine; H.E. Mr Viktor Maiko, Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Kazakhstan and Special Representative of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine for the Central Asia region; Mr Ihor Ostash, Director of the Hennadii Udovenko Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; as well as representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the foreign diplomatic corps, and academic, scholarly, and cultural circles.
The event began with a minute of silence in memory of those killed as a result of yet another massive Russian attack on civilians in Ukrainian cities.
In their remarks, the Ukrainian side emphasised that Ukrainian–Tajik relations are based not only on interstate dialogue, but also on deep cultural, historical, and humanitarian ties between the two peoples. Particular attention was paid to the significance of the “Manifesto of Cyrus the Great” as a symbol of respect for human dignity, the rights of peoples, cultural identity, and a just social order.
The importance of the book Ukrainians and Tajiks: Cultural Relations was also highlighted as a valuable contribution to the study of the history of Ukrainian–Tajik cultural contacts and the development of contemporary humanitarian dialogue. The role of Ahatanhel Krymskyi in opening for Ukraine the space of direct civilisational dialogue with the East was also underlined.
Ukraine highly values Tajikistan’s support for the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity in accordance with the UN Charter and international law. The Ukrainian side reaffirmed its interest in further developing cooperation with Tajikistan in the fields of culture, education, science, energy, agriculture, humanitarian exchanges, and post-war recovery.
The Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine expresses its sincere gratitude to the Embassy of the Republic of Tajikistan in Ukraine, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, the Ahatanhel Krymskyi Ukrainian-Tajik Society, the editorial board of the Ukrainian World magazine, and the author of the book Ukrainians and Tajiks: Cultural Relations, Oleksandr Shokalo, for their fruitful cooperation and meaningful contribution to the event.
