On 14 April, the Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine hosted the closing of Oleksandr Melnyk’s anti-war exhibition entitled “I See Your Deeds, Human!”, which, for almost two months, served as an important space for reflecting on war, responsibility and the value of peace.
The opening of the exhibition on 23 February, on the eve of the fourth anniversary of the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, held deep symbolic significance. The exhibition prompted reflection on the role of art in times of war, the everyday heroism of Ukrainians, and the expression of gratitude to the Ukrainian Defence Forces.
The event concluded with a curator’s tour: artist Oleksandr Melnyk led it for the Academy’s guests of honour, including prominent parliamentarians and public figures, and fighters for Ukraine’s independence – Ivan Zayets, Vitalii Melnychuk, Oles Shevchenko, Anatolii Bainyi, Anatolii Stoliarenko and Nataliia Osmakh. Participants had the opportunity not only to view the works but also to hear the artist’s explanations of the meanings embedded within them – about memory, pain, caution and hope.
Throughout its display, the exhibition ‘I See Your Deeds, Human!’, was visited by representatives of the diplomatic corps, civil society, artists, academics and the youth. It demonstrated once again that art has the power to unite and inspire reflection, fostering a shared aspiration for a just and lasting peace.
