The first week of the specialised course on International Cooperation, organised by the Centre for Professional Training for representatives of central executive authorities, has concluded. The programme covered key issues relating to diplomatic protocol, the development of the defence industry and international energy security.

The first thematic session focused on diplomatic etiquette and protocol. Liudmyla Nedilska, PhD in Political Science and diplomat, introduced participants to the fundamental principles of diplomatic etiquette, the specific features of official communication and the importance of protocol rules in international relations. Particular attention was paid to the practical aspects of engaging with foreign partners and the role of diplomatic protocol in representing national interests.

The export potential of Ukraine’s defence industry was explored by Valentyn Badrak, Director of the Centre for Army, Conversion and Disarmament Studies. The session addressed prospects for the development of Ukraine’s defence industry, opportunities for entering international markets and the importance of international partnerships in strengthening Ukraine’s defence capabilities.

Another key area of the programme was contemporary international relations in the energy sector and their impact on the security environment. Mykhailo Honchar, an expert in international energy and security relations and President of the Centre for Global Studies “Strategy XXI”, examined the interconnections between energy policy, geopolitical developments and national security. Participants gained a deeper understanding of current challenges in the global energy sector and the role of international cooperation in strengthening the country’s energy resilience.

The first week of the course brought together different yet interconnected aspects of international cooperation, ranging from the principles of diplomatic engagement to strategic issues relating to defence and energy. The knowledge gained will contribute to the development of civil servants’ professional competencies, enabling them to communicate effectively at the international level, establish partnerships and implement public policy in the face of contemporary challenges.

The training programme will continue, providing participants with further opportunities to deepen their knowledge of international engagement mechanisms, instruments of interstate cooperation and European integration processes. Upcoming sessions will explore additional dimensions of international relations, examine current challenges and approaches to addressing them, and strengthen the practical skills required to represent Ukraine’s interests and develop cooperation with international partners.
