On the eve of the Easter holidays, a master class on pysanka painting was held at DAU, organized by Ukrainian Diplomatic Spouses Association with the participation of International Women’s Club of Kyiv – IWCK.
The event was conducted by famous craftswoman Zoya Stashuk, who has been invited by foreign diplomatic missions accredited in Ukraine to hold pysanka workshops for more than 20 years.
Tetiana Sybiha, co-founder of the Ukrainian Diplomatic Spouse Association, public activist and interpreter, organizer of the master class:
Each Ukrainian diplomat and spouse of a diplomat is doubly effective, being on a long-term business trip, when he or she is deeply and professionally immersed in the origins of identity and culture creation.
The art of pysanka painting is a living tradition. In almost every ancient culture, the egg is a symbol of rebirth, a new beginning, spring, and the birth of a new life. In the symbols and ornaments of the Ukrainian Easter egg, our ancestors encoded symbols of faith, messages to the universe for protection, well-being, and safety. And this is not only about the past, but also about our future – ancient symbols live in modern realities, acquire new meanings. And Easter eggs are not exclusively an Easter attribute, bearing the original meaning of pagan, ancient religious times. Today, pysanka painting primarily preserves aesthetic and cultural value❞.
