The five-hour online discussion brought together diplomats, scholars and experts from Kyiv, London, Hong Kong, Warsaw, Tallinn, New York and other cities of the world to share their experiences and discuss the role of economic diplomacy in Ukraine’s recovery.
The event was opened by Hennadii Nadolenko, Director of the State Agency of Ukraine, who spoke about the goals and objectives of the discussion:
We consider the discussions of our conference as a preliminary and preparatory event before the major Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC 2023), which will be held in London on June 21-22, 2023.
State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Oleksandr Bankov outlined the main tasks and challenges facing the country’s economic diplomacy:
The main task of Ukrainian economic diplomacy is to attract investors and the international community to Ukraine, as well as to support their large projects to restore our country.
Valeriy Heets, academician, director of the Institute for Economics and Forecasting of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and co-organizer of the conference, focused on the synergy of actions of scientists and practitioners:
Our Institute is making every effort to theorize not only the tasks, but also the ways to ensure a sustainable economy of Ukraine in the context of the war and its post-war revival. However, in order to solve the problems that are currently hindering global economic development, recovery and reconstruction of the post-war economy of Ukraine, a combination of theory, practice and the true art of negotiation is required.
