Online presentation of the publication ‘Women in Official and Public Diplomacy: Essays, Articles and Interviews’

On 26 March, Ihor Ostash, Director of the Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine, took part in the online presentation of the publication ‘Women in Official and Public Diplomacy: Essays, Articles, Interviews’ – the third book in the ‘Women in Diplomacy’ publishing project, designed to highlight the role of women in shaping Ukraine’s foreign policy and to promote gender equality in the diplomatic service.

The project was launched in 2024 by the Scientific Society for the History of Diplomacy and International Relations, Professor Iryna Matyash, in collaboration with the Ukrainian Diplomats’ Spouses Association and its head and co-founder, Mrs Tetiana Sybiha, with the assistance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the support of the Hanns Seidel Foundation in Ukraine.

The event brought together career female diplomats, the spouses of heads of Ukraine’s diplomatic missions abroad, female ambassadors of foreign countries to Ukraine, leaders of Ukrainian diaspora women’s organisations, academics and representatives of civil society.

In his welcoming address, Director Ihor Ostash emphasised that “this project restores historical justice, as women in Ukrainian and global diplomacy have long remained without due recognition, often working in the shadow of men. At the same time, their contribution was often no less, and in some cases even more significant.”

“This is a book about the women who have worked and continue to work for Ukraine, providing a strong intellectual and moral foundation during these trying times,” said the head of the Academy.

All three publications are available in the library of the Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine.
