On October 6–7, the Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine hosted a practical offline seminar titled “Accession Negotiations Methodology”, organized by the Professional Training Center within the framework of the Luxembourg Technical Assistance Programme “Supporting Legal and Institutional Reforms required by Candidate Country Status.”
The course programme was developed by experts from the European Institute of Public Administration (EIPA), Juan Diego Ramírez-Cárdenas Díaz and Wolfgang Koeth, who presented to participants the key stages of the accession negotiation process, including screening, clusters, benchmarks, and reporting mechanisms. Special attention was given to preparing for negotiations in the areas of the rule of law and anti-corruption.
Participants also had the opportunity to take part in practical exercises designed to develop negotiation frameworks and reform planning. This hands-on approach allowed them to connect theoretical knowledge with real-world challenges.
The second day of the training focused on the foreign policy and security dimensions of European integration. Discussions covered the transformation of the EU, the harmonization of Ukrainian legislation with the EU acquis, European defense cooperation, interaction with NATO, and the EU’s sanctions policy.
This training course became an important step in preparing Ukrainian diplomats and civil servants for future EU accession negotiations. It not only provided participants with valuable and practical insights but also demonstrated the commitment of European partners to supporting Ukraine in strengthening its institutional capacity and advancing toward EU membership.
The event was implemented with the support of the Luxembourg Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Defence, Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade.
