On 8-9 October, the Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine hosted an international seminar for judges entitled “Key aspects of the legal order and judicial organisation of the European Union”, organised by the National School of Judges of Ukraine with the support of the Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine, the European Institute of Public Administration (EIPA), the Luxembourg Technical Assistance Programme for Ukraine “Supporting Legal and Institutional Reforms required by Candidate Country Status”, the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Defence, Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade of Luxembourg, and the OSCE Programme for Ukraine.
The main objective of the seminar was to deepen participants' understanding of the EU legal order, with a particular focus on the relationship between EU law and national legislation, as well as the role of national authorities in ensuring compliance with EU standards.
During the training, participants gained practical knowledge about the functioning of the preliminary ruling procedure and the role of national courts in ensuring compliance with EU law through interactive exercises.
Acting Director of the Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine Oleksandr Kyrychenko and Vice-Rector of the National School of Judges Nataliia Shuklina addressed the audience with welcoming remarks.
The trainers for the event were Juan Diego Ramirez-Cárdenas Díaz, Senior Legal Expert, EIPA Luxembourg – European Centre for Judges and Lawyers, and Wolfgang Koeth, Senior Expert, EIPA Maastricht.
