Book series “Carpathian Ukraine in the Documents of the Second Czechoslovak Republic” and “Carpathian Ukraine in the Documents of the Second Polish Republic” by Oleksandr Pahiria. We continue our book review section #DAU_Library and are pleased to present collections from the sub-series “Carpathian Ukraine 1938–1939.”
These books contain government, political, military, and diplomatic documents that were previously difficult to access. They shed light on the events in Zakarpattia in 1938–1939 in a broader regional and European context.
The first collection contains documents concerning the domestic political situation in Czechoslovakia, particularly in Carpathian Ukraine, and its role in Europe on the eve of World War II.
The second collection presents materials that give an idea of the Polish view of the problem of Ukrainian statehood in Zakarpattia during one of the most vivid and at the same time dramatic periods in the region's history, when Zakarpattia became the subject of lively international interest and fierce geopolitical struggle.
About the author: Oleksandr Pahiria is a historian, candidate of historical sciences, senior researcher at the Memorial Museum “Territory of Terror” (Lviv), author of over 50 scientific publications and several books.
We express our gratitude to the Ukrainian Catholic University, in particular to Olia Hnatiuk and Ihor Halahida, who are working fruitfully on the publishing series “Ukraine. Europe: 1921-1939,” for the copies donated to the DAU book fund.
