The Hennadii Udovenko Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has launched a new academic platform dedicated to the professional study of contemporary diplomacy, international relations, international security, and global transformations.

The inaugural issue of the scholarly journal Academia Diplomatica UA has now been published and is available online at: https://academiadiplomaticaua.mfa.gov.ua/vypusky/potochnij-vipusk.

The journal is designed to serve as a forum for professional dialogue among diplomats, scholars, and policy experts from Ukraine and abroad.

The first issue opens with the programmatic article by Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and Chair of the Journal's Editorial Board Andrii Sybiha, entitled "Ukraine's New Role as a Security Partner." In this contribution, the Minister presents a contemporary vision of Ukraine's place in world politics as a country that is not only defending its own sovereignty but also actively contributing to the emerging European and global security architecture. Particular attention is devoted to the development of a new vocabulary of Ukrainian wartime diplomacy, centered on the concepts of security, Europe, freedom, justice, and peace.

As the opening article of the inaugural issue, it establishes the journal's conceptual framework, combining a strategic vision of Ukrainian diplomacy with rigorous academic reflection and practical relevance. It sets a high scholarly and professional standard for the publication, defines its mission as a platform for informed discussion on pressing issues of international relations and diplomacy, and establishes ambitious benchmarks for future contributions.

The introductory address by Ihor Ostash, Director of the Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine, sets the conceptual tone for the publication. He emphasizes the shift in Ukrainian diplomacy from a "diplomacy of resistance" to a "diplomacy of action," and positions the journal as an "intellectual compass" for foreign policy — one that blends academic tradition, the contemporary challenges of the digital age, and the training of a new generation of diplomats.

The inaugural issue features articles by Ukrainian and international diplomats, scholars, and experts addressing key issues of Ukraine's foreign policy, international security, international law, digital diplomacy, and cooperation with the countries of the Global South.

Among the featured contributions are Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine Volodymyr Khomanets' study on Africa as a strategic direction of Ukraine's proactive economic diplomacy, Viktoriia Ulyhanets' article on jus gentium in Africa, and Mariia Tomak's analysis of the Crimea Global conference as an instrument of Ukraine's public diplomacy in engaging the Global South.

The journal's international dimension is further strengthened by the English-language article "Fraught with Contradiction: The Impact of the Russian War in Ukraine on the Global South" by distinguished South African scholars Greg Mills and Ray Hartley, examining the consequences of Russia's war against Ukraine for countries of the Global South.

The issue also includes a review by Professor and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine Borys Humeniuk of Volodymyr Khandohii's book Diplomatic Stories – 2: A First-Hand Account Without Omissions.
