The invited lecturer of the course was Michael Roberts, former British Ambassador, Programme Director at the Diplomatic Skills Lab, and an expert in public speaking training with many years of experience working with European institutions and diplomatic services. His practical background enabled participants to gain modern tools and approaches applied in international communication.
Throughout the programme, participants deepened their understanding of the key principles of effective public speaking, reviewed examples of successful and unsuccessful speeches, and received practical recommendations on structuring messages for diverse audiences. A significant part of the course consisted of practical sessions during which participants worked on developing their own speeches, analysed common mistakes, and practised techniques for confident delivery.
Special attention was given to formulating clear messages, persuasion techniques, and the use of rhetorical devices that make a speech more impactful and memorable.
The programme contributed to strengthening participants’ confidence in public speaking in English and improving their communication skills essential for professional work in diplomacy and public administration.
The training course was implemented with the support of the Estonian School of Diplomacy and the Estonian Centre for International Development.
